Northside ISD trustees unanimously voted April 29 to appoint educator Homer Guevara Jr. as the new representative for Single-Member District 2.

The background

Guevara, an economics and government professor at Northwest Vista College, replaces Gerald Lopez, who ran unopposed in the May 4 election for the District 5 seat on the Alamo Colleges District board. Guevara will serve for the unexpired term in until the May 2025 board elections.

NISD officials said Guevara has more than 30 years of experience in education, having taught at Northwest Vista since August 2001, as well as in Edgewood ISD, South San ISD and at Concordia University.

A closer look


Guevara serves with the San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission, and previously served as co-chair of the education and workforce development council for the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, Guevara has served on the boards of CPS Energy and the San Antonio Energy Acquisition Public Facility Corp., and sat on the undergraduate education advisory committee for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
