A new partnership between Classic Theatre of San Antonio and the Public Theater of San Antonio will result in Classic Theatre bringing its 2023-24 productions to the San Pedro Playhouse Cellar Theater, home of Public Theater.

According to a news release, the partnership will also have J. Robert “Jimmy” Moore, producing artistic director of The Classic, take the additional role of producing artistic director for the Public Theater’s upcoming productions, which will be performed in the Playhouse’s Russell Rogers Theater.

Representatives of both theatrical organizations said the partnership will not only allow them to share space and resources, but it will also create more opportunities in the San Antonio arts community.

“This arrangement presents an excellent opportunity for The Classic to settle into a new home, and the resources saved through the partnership will be invested in delivering extraordinary theatrical experiences for the community,” Classic Theatre board Chair Alvin Loewenberg said in a statement.

Public Theater board Chair Dawn Cole echoed Loewenberg’s sentiments.

“And we are proud to welcome [Moore] home to The Public Theater, where we know he will bring his passion for sharing works that highlight local talent and celebrate San Antonio’s vibrant and diverse culture,” Cole said in a statement.
