San Antonio financial institution’s nonprofit arm donates $2,500 to Catholic Charities

The San Antonio-based Security Service Charitable Foundation, Security Service Federal Credit Union’s charitable arm, donated $2,500 to Catholic Charities of San Antonio to help provide box fans, food and clothing for low-income seniors.

According to an Oct. 4 news release, the donation will help the local organization with its annual fan drive, Project Cool, and its Adopt-A-Senior program, which provides food for seniors.

Tara Ford, Catholic Charities of San Antonio marketing communications director, said in a statement that many residents, especially senior citizens and disabled individuals, struggle through harsh South Texas summers without air conditioning.

“It’s because of generous donations from partners, like the Security Service Charitable Foundation, that we are able to provide low-income seniors with necessities, like fans,” Ford said.

The release said Project Cool provides 20-inch box fans to low-income seniors and disabled individuals to reduce heat-related illness and death. The Adopt-A-Senior program provides necessities, such as food, fans and clothing, to isolated and low-income seniors, the release added.

Brandy Ralston-Lint, SSFCU’s senior vice president of corporate communications, said Catholic Charities is known for helping meet certain needs of San Antonio residents.

“The box fans, food and clothes will bring great relief to seniors who often do without," she said.
