Opportunity Home San Antonio accepting applications for Housing Choice vouchers

Opportunity Home San Antonio, the local housing authority, is accepting preliminary applications for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, most commonly known as Section 8, Nov. 1-15. Open enrollment closes at midnight Nov. 15.

The background

According to a news release, a total of 15,000 applicants will be randomly chosen through a lottery system to provide equity in the selection process. Applicants who have already applied for the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist do not need to reapply, the release states.

Opportunity Home will exhaust the current waitlist before pulling applicants from the new open enrollment period.

According to the release, the public housing waitlists will remain open after the Nov. 15 application deadline for Housing Choice Vouchers ends.

• Social Security numbers for each household member are required if available
