On May 27, New Braunfels Utilities began construction on an infrastructure project in the Guada Coma Estates neighborhood.

To prepare for upcoming city road work along Simon St., the project will replace aging water and wastewater mains and add a second water feed. According to a news release, the project will accomplish the following:

• Wastewater system improvement: Replace over 1,300 feet of aged 6-inch wastewater pipes with more efficient 8-inch mains along Hampe St., Simon Ave.
• Water system upgrades: Replace 1,070 feet of outdated 6-inch water lines with new 8-inch pipes to increase capacity.
• Improved flow control: Install new valves along Guada Coma Drive, improving control over water flow in the neighborhood.

Until Nov. 21, sections of Simon St. will be reduced to one lane between Hampe St. and Guada Coma Drive so crews can safely maneuver equipment. Drivers may also experience varying lane conditions and flaggers directing traffic on Guada Coma Drive, according to the release.

The setup

For the duration of the project, access to homes within the construction area will be maintained. The utility will notify customers of any planned water outages, which would occur between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., 48 hours in advance, according to the release.
