The budget amendment was proposed to help the project renovate and better improve the current fire station, according to agenda documents.
The overview
An amendment for the project was proposed to help meet the funding needs of the fire station, according to agenda documents.
The original project budget was $1,820,00. The renovation project was originally funded in the 2022 tax note fund. Tax note funds are issued by the local government to help raise funding for projects before tax revenues are collected. The remaining funds in the 2019 bond fund will fund the remaining costs for the project, according to agenda documents.
The amended amount for the project is $481,000 and will be provided by the 2019 bond fund, making the total project budget $2,301,000.
More details
Renovation construction began in October 2024. The renovations are geared toward updating the station to meet modern safety requirements—like the National Fire Protection Agency 1500 standards—according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
Other facility upgrades include:
- Relocating firefighter gear storage from the apparatus bay to a dedicated room
- Installing a separate cleaning room for gear
- Adding a natural gas generator
During construction Fire Station #5 has been temporarily relocated to Fire Station No. 2, located at 159 S. Waterway Lane.
The renovations are anticipated to be completed in July, Communication Manager David Ferguson said in an email sent to Community Impact.
