New Braunfels Christian Ministries officially opened its expanded Volunteers in Medicine clinic Oct. 3, providing free medical and dental services to uninsured adults in Comal and Guadalupe counties.

Update: Former Hollywood Park officials dispute mayor's claim

Hollywood Park City Council approved the appointment of three interim department heads during its Oct. 15 meeting following the resignations of three city leaders.


The appointments of the interim heads followed the resignation of former Public Works Director Kelly Cowan, former Fire Chief Todd Morgan and former City Secretary Patrick Aten.

According to a statement from Hollywood Park Mayor Chester Drash, the resignations came after an investigation into alleged violations of city code and misuse of city property, as disclosed after a closed session with council and the city attorney.

Aten, Cowan and Morgan disputed Drash’s claims of any alleged wrongdoing.

Judson ISD Superintendent Fields gets contract extended to 2028

The Judson ISD board of trustees on Oct. 17 approved an extension of the superintendent contract.

Under this extension, Superintendent Milton “Rob” Fields III has a contract with the district until June 30, 2028. Fields became the superintendent in May 2023 after the board approved a three-year contract. The contract extension does not come with a pay increase, according to the motion made by trustee Debra Eaton.

New Braunfels approves construction contract for Comal River last public exit

New Braunfels will soon begin improvements at the last public exit of the Comal River to make it safer and more accessible for river users.

Scott McClelland, assistant director of transportation and capital improvements, presented the project to the New Braunfels City Council during an Oct. 14 meeting, following a previous presentation to the EDC.

The city plans to replace the uneven stairs, improve access and add an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant route, McClelland said.


The project will also discontinue the use of a New Braunfels Utilities waterline running under the stairs, McClelland said.

Chick-fil-A to purchase land in Universal City for new restaurant

Chick-fil-A, Inc. is in the process of purchasing property in Universal City for the construction of a new restaurant location.

Universal City City Council approved a resolution Oct. 15 authorizing the sale of the property, located off Kitty Hawk Road near the entrance to Walmart.

City Manager Kim Turner said the permit for the restaurant is likely to be issued within the next 60 days.
