Volunteers in Medicine, a nonprofit organization that provides free health care services to uninsured individuals in the New Braunfels area, is slated to open in its new clinic in September.

The background

The nonprofit broke ground on the new facility, located 1239 W. San Antonio St., New Braunfels, in April 2023. It will be the new home to the New Braunfels Christian Ministries' Volunteers in Medicine, according to previous reporting from Community Impact.

The details

With 14.4% of Comal County residents lacking health insurance, according to a May 7 news release from the nonprofit, the new facility will aim to eliminate the gap and make health care more accessible, officials said in the release. The 9,000-square foot facility's funding comes from Oakwood Church, covering the $2.5 million cost of the new clinic, according to the release.

“We feel privileged to serve here in New Braunfels, and this new facility will undoubtedly be a tremendous blessing," said Jim Wesson, executive director or New Braunfels Christian Ministries.

The amenities, according to the news release, include:
  • 7,000-square-foot clinic space
  • 1,275-square-foot office space
  • A 725-square-foot education conference room
