The Comal Education Foundation—a nonprofit organization connected to Comal ISD—is celebrating its 25th anniversary this spring.
About the organization
The foundation, which first formed in 2001, has worked to enrich learning and expand educational opportunities beyond what tax dollars provide, through classroom grants for teachers, scholarships for graduating seniors, career-readiness programs, workforce partnerships and student entrepreneurship initiatives, Comal Education Foundation Executive Director Lizette Goodloe.
The foundation is governed by a volunteer board of directors made up of community leaders, business partners and district representatives.
What else?
Individuals can volunteer on a committee or make a monetary donation of any size. Businesses can also sponsor district programs to help students gain real-world skills, Goodloe said.
"The foundation’s board members believe public education is a community effort, and the foundation is not separate from the community. It is the community. Every donation, volunteer hour and partnership directly benefits the students within Comal ISD," Goodloe said.
The organization will host its annual "Prost to Education" Gala and the 25th Annual Jan Heckendorn Academic Recognition Banquet May 5. The gala will honor top academically ranked students from seven Comal ISD high schools, Goodloe said.
