Gruene Hall, the oldest continually-operating dancehall in Texas, was named the 2024 Live Music Venue of the Year by the Texas Country Music Association at the Texas Country Music Awards on Nov. 10.

The details

Gruene Hall, located at 1281 Gruene Road in New Braunfels, continues to host live performances.

Built in 1878, Gruene Hall has hosted performances by artists such as Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks, the Bacon Brothers, Trombone Shorty, Little Richard, Jerry Jeff Walker, B.B. King and many local artists throughout Texas.

The hall was purchased in 1975 by Pat Molak and reopened with business partner Mary Jane Nalley, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.

What they're saying

“Live music venues are one of the great places where everyone is welcome—where all are treated with dignity and welcomed,” said Ryan Weinbrandt, CEO of Molak Corporation, which owns and operates Gruene Hall, in a Nov. 18 news release from the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce.

"We’re still sweeping up dust and wrangling the occasional raccoon—but it’s worth it when we hear people’s stories of their first time visiting," Weinbrandt said. "Gruene Hall is a place of legends, and it’s humbling to see it recognized.”
