Selma City Council approves budget for fiscal year 2024-25

Selma City Council on Sept. 12 approved the fiscal year 2024-25 budget. The combined total of all funds in the budget is around $30.31 million, which is around a 7.9% increase over the budget from FY 2023-24.

The details

Assistant City Administrator Wyatt Agee on Sept. 12 said the budget will include funding for:

• Reconstruction of Retama Parkway and Alton Boulevard
• Road and pedestrian improvements to the southern portion of Lookout Road
• Stormwater drainage project in the Olympia Hills subdivision
• Comprehensive city parks master plan
• Three firefighter positions
• Replacement vehicles for police department and public works
• Remodel of rooms in fire and police departments
• Salary increases for employees
• Other city projects

The budget was approved with unanimously from City Council.

What’s next?

Following the budget approval, City Council is scheduled to approve the proposed tax rate on Sept. 17.

On Aug. 8, City Council approved the preliminary tax rate, which is planned to stay at the same rate as FY 2023-24 at $0.1879 per $100 valuation.

While the tax rate is proposed to be unchanged, homeowners may see an increase in annual taxes paid depending on increases to home appraisal values.

Information regarding the appraised value of a home can be found through the Bexar Appraisal District, Guadalupe Appraisal District or Comal Appraisal District depending on the county where the property is located.
