Boerne city officials to be sworn in, election schedule to be considered on May 27

Boerne city officials are scheduled to be sworn in during the May 27 city council meeting.

The overview

May 3 election results were canvassed May 13, officially documenting four City Charter amendments alongside Mayor Frank Ritchie retaining his seat and Joe Bateman becoming a council member. District 4 council member Bret Bunker ran uncontested during the election.

Ritchie, Bunker and Bateman will be officially sworn in at the start of the May 27 meeting, and City Council will select a new mayor pro tem, who temporarily serves as mayor during the official mayor’s absence.

Ordinances amending the City Charter are scheduled on the consent agenda, followed by the first reading of an ordinance to establish a staggered election schedule with three-year terms.

If approved, the following council seats will be up for election in the next few years:

• 2026: Districts 1 and 3
• 2027: Districts 4 and 5
• 2028: Mayor and District 2

This staggered election schedule would have two city officials on the ballot each year. City Council meetings are held at Boerne City Hall, located at 447 North Main St., beginning at 6 p.m.
