On March 10, the Bexar County Commissioners Court unanimously voted to approve a memorandum of understanding, or MOU—which is a nonbinding agreement—between the county, the Bexar County Coliseum Advisory Board and the San Antonio Livestock Exposition.
The gist
According to county documents, the MOU is to move forward with proposed improvements to existing facilities and related infrastructure; and grants county staff permission to negotiate the final definitive, long-form agreements to govern the project in greater detail. All negotiations will be approved by the Commissioners Court once they are fully negotiated.
According to previous reporting from Community Impact, the project will include two new buildings, modified flex stalls and an exposition hall. The modified exposition hall will feature holding pens, a market, a restaurant and a permanent show arena.
The backgroundAccording to county documents, on June 10, the Commissioners Court signed a resolution authorizing improvements to the East Side properties within the Coliseum Complex, including the Freeman Coliseum, the Frost Bank Center and related facilities. These improvements were subject to voter approval.
On Nov. 4, Bexar County voters approved both propositions A and B, which cleared the way for the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo to transform the county’s East Side properties into its permanent home, and funds 25%, or $311 million, of the new downtown Spurs Arena. Proposition A passed with 55.91% of the vote, while Proposition B passed with 52.14% of the vote.
