Manny Pelaez, San Antonio District 8 City Council member, and partner community organizations will host a back-to-school bash. Students and families may receive free backpacks, school supplies and vaccines while supplies last. There will be dental screenings and giveaways. The Briscoe Museum of Western Art, which is hosting “The Sons of Charlie Russell: Cowboy Artists of America” exhibit, will have a hands-on painting activity with artist Chad Poppleton. He will guide participants in creating their own cowboy art. Mario Bravo, San Antonio District 1 City Council member, along with Spurs Give and community partners will have a back-to-school bash for parents, students and teachers at the AT&T Center. Opportunities include free school supplies, free dental and vision screenings, free vaccinations and assistance resources from more than 50 community organizations while supplies last. The San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture will host new exhibits at Centro de Artes Gallery. Leila Hernández’s exhibit “La Visa Negra 2.5: Tendiendo los Trapitos al Sol” features sustainable, recycled artworks that reflect on the cultural crossover between South Texas and northern Mexico. Artist Elizabeth Montelongo's “The Euphoric Dance of the Unconquered Mind” is a series of textured oil paintings of Mexika dancers that celebrate the continued tradition of Indigenous dance ceremony.
