Students at Judson ISD returned to school on Aug. 13, including those attending two new district campuses.
Judson ISD has officially opened both Selma Elementary School, located at 16842 Retama Parkway in Selma, and Cibolo Creek Middle School, situated at 5735 Waldon Walk in San Antonio.
In a nutshell
Both campuses are funded by the district’s 2022 bond and were completed over the summer, according to Judson ISD board of trustees agenda documents.
Selma Elementary’s project cost is estimated at $48.38 million, while Cibolo Creek's cost is estimated at $80.32 million, according to previous reporting by Community Impact.
Selma Elementary students are relocating from the former Coronado Village Elementary School, district communications staff told Community Impact, along with students shifted in the redistricting process.
As of August 11, the school's enrollment is 507 students from grades Pre-K through 5th. Melissa Martinez serves as principal and Alejandra Gutierrez serves as assistant principal, according to the school’s webpage.
Cibolo Creek Middle School has an enrollment of 854 students from 6th to 8th grade, communications staff told Community Impact. The new middle school consists of students who were shuffled due to redistricting and was implemented based on growth in the area.
Gregory Bauer serves as principal, with Leilani Sifuentes, Jerry Mendiola and Kimsie Altamirano serving as assistant principals, according to the school’s webpage.
Offering input
Daniel Brooks, the district's assistant superintendent of operations, said at a Aug. 21 board of trustees meeting that the final major piece to be completed at Selma Elementary is the school courtyard, slated to be finished in mid-September. Brooks said at Cibolo Creek, sod has been laid down on playing fields, and he expects they will be completed by October.
Superintendent Milton "Rob" Fields III said he has been in Brooks' position before and appreciates his staff's dedication to the projects.
"We put a tighter window on these two than I've ever seen before ... I can't say how much I appreciate you for what you guys did to pull that off," Fields said.
Board President Monica Ryan said that staff and community members were able to work together to get everyone ready for the school year.
"I do want to say thanks to all of our staff for their patience, because you did not get in there in July to set your room up and everything else ... I was glad to see so many people coming out to help support you and help you get all set," Ryan said.
