Rolling Acres Trail construction in Fair Oaks Ranch began Dec. 1, temporarily closing lanes and implementing traffic signals throughout construction.

What’s happening?

The Rolling Acres Trail and Willow Wind/Red Bud Hill Water Line Replacement Project began in August to replace approximately 5,600 feet of aging water mains, including 3,300 feet along Willow Wind Drive/Red Bud Hill and 2,300 feet along Rolling Acres Trail.

Willow Wind Drive Replacements were completed in October, while Red Bud Hill remains under construction until around Dec. 10, according to the city website.

Construction on Rolling Acres Trail began Dec. 1 and is expected to be completed in early February.

Traffic signals and changes will be implemented during the construction, with overall impacts expected to be minimal. Residents can expect increased activity in the area and one-lane traffic flow.

How we got here

According to fact sheets released by city staff, both lines have a history of main breaks. The Willow Wind Drive line has broken approximately eight to 12 times since 2016, while the Rolling Acres Trail main has broken four times since 2016.

Replacing the lines will reduce operational and maintenance costs for the city and help minimize disruptions to residents who use water from those mains.

The projects have a cost of around $1.24 million, paid for through certificate of obligation bond funds, according to the city website.
