A local church and nonprofit is celebrating its 150th anniversary this month in Boerne.

The details

First United Methodist Church Boerne, or FUMC Boerne, located at 205 James St., was founded all the way back in 1875.

The church’s Administrator, Valerie Rogler, said they plan to celebrate the occasion with a few events as fall begins.

On Sept. 28, Rogler said members will pack 10,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger, an international nonprofit organization that aims to combat hunger in communities across the world.


There will also be a memorial service and celebration lunch.

The history

According to The TXGenWeb Project, a Texas-based genealogical and historical preservation society, FUMC Boerne was founded by just five members in 1875, growing to 15 in 1877.

Since then, the church has maintained a congregation in several different buildings throughout its history in the Hill Country.
