Following severe flooding in the Hill Country over the July 4 weekend, numerous organizations and businesses have come together in support of flood victims.

The TBI Warrior Foundation, alongside Vista Swim Academy, Genesis Counseling Center Texas, The UPS Store 3550 and other community partners, on July 25, delivered more than $65,000 worth of medical equipment and assistive devices that will serve the Dietert Center in Kerrville.

Victor Medina, president and founder of the TBI Warrior Foundation, said the group is the only organization addressing the needs of people with disabilities in response to the flood.

“Working with people with disabilities is our day-to-day,” Medina said. “When the floods happened, our minds went to that.”

The action taken

Medina said he is thankful for the community support and initiative taken by area businesses, organizations and over 100 volunteers.

“We knew that the support for clothes and food would be overwhelming, but those with disabilities might not be front and center,” Medina said. “Unless you have lived it, it is probably not going to cross people’s minds.”

This was the largest coordinated medical essentials response, expected to serve over 5,000 Hill Country families. Efforts helped fully stock the Dietert Center’s lending program with over 150 mobility devices, hospital beds and other equipment needed for the day-to-day living of a person with disability.

Medina said the Dietert Center was restored to a better position than before the flooding, having been equipped with new equipment and a selection of used equipment. The lending program serves over 2,500 individuals in need of medical equipment annually.

In their own words

Kim Blohm, president and CEO of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce, said the efforts of local nonprofits and businesses have been both inspiring and deeply humbling to witness as the community comes together to support those impacted by flooding.

“These partnerships aren’t just about donations; they’re about uniting to ensure every business, non-profit, individual and family impacted feels supported and seen,” Blohm said in an email. “One beautiful example is the work of the TBI Warrior Foundation, whose mission of inclusivity reaches far beyond veterans to serve children and adults alike. Their recent partnership with locally women-owned businesses like Vista Swim Academy, Rooted Strength Coaching and Krystal Glass Photography is a testament to what makes Boerne so special.”
