Commissioners agreed to rename the building located at 400 E. Blanco Road, which has been renovated to house county offices.
The details
At the end of 2025, a poll was conducted, requesting name suggestions from the community.
Precinct 2 Commissioner Andra Wisian said more than two dozen suggestions were submitted for the building name.
Prior to the Jan. 13 meeting, commissioners were given a list of 28 name suggestions, from which they chose their top 10 names for consideration.
County staff compiled the top name suggestions from each commissioner and the judge, selecting the most popular suggestions to create a top three list, from which a single name was chosen. The court agreed to name the building 400 Blanco Annex.
Some context
Wisian suggested naming the building after the former Boerne Grange, which spearheaded funding for a library in Boerne.
According to the city of Boerne website, Boerne Grange won the United States Community Progress Contest sponsored by the National Grange and the Sears Roebuck Foundation in 1964. Utilizing the winnings from the contest alongside funds raised through other grants and initiatives, the library was constructed next to the former city hall, dedicated in April 1967.
While the building will be named 400 Blanco Annex, Wisian recommended the incorporation of a sign or information detailing the history of the facility.
