Over the month, the city of Boerne tackled amendments to the Buc-ee’s development agreement, and city officials discussed the state of the city.
In Fair Oaks Ranch, City Council discussed engineering requirements for driveway culverts, deciding to postpone the decision.
Kendall County commissioners approved financial guarantees for the Corley Road project, and Katherine McDaniel was appointed judge of the newly created 498th Judicial District Court.
Boerne Buc-ee's development agreement updated, specifying store design
Following months of community discussion and concern, the Buc-ee’s development agreement is being updated.
Boerne City Council on Oct. 27 had an executive session discussion regarding agreement negotiations, followed by amendments that clarify store size, the number of jobs and compliance with city design standards.
Assistant City Manager Kristy Stark said the updated agreement includes clarifications and updates to the original agreement that benefit the city.
“These additional updates—they strengthen the design standards, infrastructure commitments and the community benefits,” she said. “We want to express our appreciation to Buc-ee’s for the manner in which they have worked with us on this.”
Boerne leaders reflect on a year of growth, future projects
Boerne leaders on Oct. 23 highlighted the state of the city during a Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce event.
City Manager Ben Thatcher, Mayor Frank Ritchie and Mayor Pro Tem Ty Wolosin shared city updates over the last year, and looked ahead to future projects.
Of the projects highlighted, mobility, parks and recreation, and other capital improvements took center stage.
Wolosin shared an update on future mobility projects, including improvements to the Herff Road and River Road intersection, which is among the most needed projects in the community, he said.
Since that intersection is located on a Texas Department of Transportation road, state approval is needed before improvements can be made.
“It is a very complicated intersection and a very expensive project,” Wolosin said. “It is also a state intersection, and not an intersection that the city or county can just go and fix.”
Fair Oaks Ranch City Council discusses engineering requirements for driveway culverts
Culverts under driveways on curbed streets are up for discussion in Fair Oaks Ranch as city staff works to update city policies.
The policy discussed during the Oct. 16 City Council meeting would implement a rule that driveway replacements must include an engineer analysis to ensure the driveway construction adequately allows water flow through culverts.
City Council discussion led to the postponement of the agenda item due to concerns about fees to residents who are repairing or replacing their driveways.
Kendall County Commissioners authorize financial guarantees for Corley Road project
The Corley Road project progresses following the approval of financial guarantee bonds during the Oct. 14 Kendall County Commissioners Court.
The financial guarantees cover the first two phases of the Corley Road project, which improves the roadway near Viola Wilson Elementary School.
Earlier this year, Boerne ISD trustees advocated for the expansion of the roadway to accommodate a rear exit for the school.
In February, district staff said Viola Wilson Elementary was designed with the road expansion in mind, and that the district was confident the expansion, part of a development agreement, would improve it.
In April, commissioners approved a revised plan for the expansion, which realigns the intersection of Corley and Scenic Loop roads approximately 500 feet north of the current intersection.
The project will have a future third phase, aligning with future development.
Katherine McDaniel appointed 498th Judicial Court judge
Gov. Greg Abbott has appointed Katherine McDaniel to the 498th Judicial District Court in Kendall County for a term set to expire at the end of 2026.
According to an Oct. 6 news release, McDaniel is the first assistant district attorney for the Kendall County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, currently serving on the Texas Violent Gang Task Force.
McDaniel is also a member of the Texas District and County Attorneys’ Association Journal Editorial Board, State Bar of Texas, Kendall County Bar Association, Texas Bar College and the Texas Prosecutors’ Society.
