The May 3 election is right around the corner for Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch voters to cast a ballot for city council and Boerne ISD seats.

Early voting for the election ended on April 29, with a total of 2,282 people casting ballots in person, according to records from Kendall County.

What you need to know

Boerne Mayor Frank Ritchie will run against Laura Haning, former planning and community development director for the city. District 2 incumbent Sharon Wright will run against Joe Bateman.

The city of Boerne will also have a special election for four city charter amendments, including:
  • Proposition A: Increase City Council members and mayor term from two to three years.
  • Proposition B: Remove language in the charter about other elected officials in the city, as there are no other elected positions other than City Council.
  • Proposition C: Change the procedure for filling City Council vacancies to comply with state law for cities with three-year terms, as opposed to the current two-year terms, requiring that City Council appoint a council member if a vacancy occurs in a position with less than 12 months remaining.
  • Proposition D: Require a review of the city charter every 10 years, reviewed and approved by the voters.
Fair Oaks Ranch is slated to get one new council member for the Place 4 seat, currently held by Laura Koerner, who celebrated her service to the city on May 1. Dale Pearson and James Roff will be on the May ballot for the council seat.

For Place 3, incumbent Ruben Olvera will run against Scott Rose, while incumbent Scott Parker will be on the ballot for the Place 5 seat against Kevin Cox.

Two Boerne ISD races will be on the ballot, including Place 4, which will be contested between incumbent Maritza Gonzalez-Cooper and Sarah Faulkenberry.

For the Place 5 seat, voters will choose between incumbent Garrett Wilson and Scott Newberry.
