A South African-inspired meat market is on its way to Boerne, bringing flavors from across the globe to the area.

In case you missed it

Called Pioneers Meats, Co-owner Brett de Villiers said he expects it to open sometime at the end of October at 306 River Road.

It’s located where The Pearl Antler boutique once had a storefront before moving to Main Street.

Villiers said the business also has a brick-and-mortar in the Pipe Creek area at 10550 Hwy. 16, marking the shop's first expansion in the Hill Country.

Some authentic offerings at the shop will include biltong, a form of ostrich jerky, boerewors, a South African sausage and drywors, which is dried sausage, Villiers said.

Aside from these African delicacies, the market will also feature a range of international groceries and goods from places like the United Kingdom and Spain.

With Villiers hailing from Zimbabwe and the other co-owner, Nelson Pereira, being a South African native, the pair wanted to bring traditional Southern African flavors to Central Texas.

Villiers said he first immigrated from abroad to Texas in 2018, still craving the flavors from back home.
