Heritage Trail West in Round Rock nears completion

Round Rock City Council passed a change order for construction work on the Heritage Trail West project Sept. 12, bringing the total contract to over $21 million. The project is expected to be completed this fall.

Overview

The trail project is a 1-mile addition to the Brushy Creek Trail system and will link the west side of Round Rock to the city’s downtown. Project features include a 10-foot wide trail from from Chisholm Trail Road to Mays Street; a pedestrian bridge with overlook to Brushy Creek; and improvements at Bathing Beach Park, Chisholm Trail Crossing Park and Memorial Park.

The current situation

City Council approved the change order of $208,395.57 to Patin Construction, LLC at its meeting Sept. 12. The price increase accounts for an adjustment to work and materials on the project, including piers and concrete pads for sculptures, bringing the total contract amount to $21,324,095.57.

Patin Construction took over work on the project in August 2022 after the original contractor filed for bankruptcy in 2021.

Funding for the project comes from a 2013 voter-approved bond and an additional $6.3 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.
