Regional wastewater system rehabilitation up for vote in Round Rock

The Brushy Creek Regional Wastewater System in Round Rock is currently under design to expand its capacity. Round Rock City Council will vote on a contract to rehabilitate the current facilities at its meeting Nov. 7.

The background

Round Rock oversees operations and maintenance of the regional wastewater system, which also serves Cedar Park, Leander and Austin. Plummer and Associates Inc. is currently designing the facility’s expansion, which will increase its capacity from 30 million gallons per day to 40 million gallons per day.

The city of Austin and Round Rock are sharing the cost of the expansion.

What’s next?

The public works department is requesting additional design work to rehabilitate the current facility, Public Works Director Michael Thane said at a Nov. 5 agenda packet briefing. Plummer and Associates would also be the design firm for the rehabilitation.

The contract is $1.2 million, which Round Rock is responsible for 60%, or $763,000. Leander, Cedar Park and Austin would share the remaining cost.
