Each year, Round Rock City Council appoints members to serve on city boards and commissions in August. These are usually community volunteers who will bring diverse viewpoints in decision-making and advisory capacities across different areas of city administration.

Boards and commissions the city is seeking volunteers for include:
- Planning & Zoning Commission / CIAC
- Transportation & Economic Development Corporation (Type B)
- Historic Preservation Commission
- Civil Service Commission
- Zoning Board of Adjustment
- Ethics Review Commission
- Building Standards Commission / Fire Code Board of Appeals
