Round Rock ISD to offer COVID-19 vaccine clinic Aug. 16, reiterates mask guidance

Round Rock ISD reiterated its mask guidance and will host a COVID-19 vaccine clinic ahead of the 2021-22 school year.

While the district stated in a press release it cannot issue a mask mandate because of an executive order from Gov. Greg Abbott, it is recommending the wearing of masks regardless of vaccination status.

"With more than 25,000 Round Rock ISD students still ineligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, Round Rock ISD strongly recommends that students, staff and families wear a mask while on campuses and in district facilities to reduce the transmission of the virus and to protect those who are not vaccinated," the press release stated.

Previously, the district had shared at school board meetings that masks would be encouraged but not required.

The district will also be hosting a vaccination clinic Aug. 16 from 4-8 p.m. at the McNeil Performing Arts Center. Anyone age 12 or older may receive the vaccine for free with no insurance or identification required, per the district. Students under age 18 do not need to have a parent with them to receive the vaccine, but they will need to bring a completed consent form, which is available on the district website.

A second vaccination event will be held in September for second doses of the vaccine.
