Round Rock City Council selects Bond Advisory Commission

The Round Rock City Council is moving forward in setting up a bond proposal in time for the November elections.

At its March 14 meeting the councilmembers nominated 13 appointments to serve on the city's General Bond Advisory Commission. Each councilmember nominated two appointments and Mayor Alan McGraw selected the Commission's chairman, Mike Freeman.

The Commission will be charged with examining city staff and the Council's suggestions for a potential bond package. The Commission is expected to begin meeting in April and present its recommendations to the City Council by late August. The meetings will be open to the public.

"We tried to get a good cross-section of residents," McGraw said. "The whole purpose [of the Commission] is to vet the proposals, and see if they are right for the city."

If the City Council elects to move forward with a bond proposal, an election would be set for November. Round Rock's last bond election was in 2001. Voters at the time approved $89.9 million in new bonds to fund parks and recreation, public safety, public works and public service facility projects.
