Round Rock, Pflugerville among 25 fastest-growing U.S. cities in 2016

Round Rock and Pflugerville continued to grow in 2016 at rates that ranked among the fastest-growing cities nationally.

The U.S. Census released population estimates today that show Round Rock and Pflugerville ranked 18th and 23rd, respectively, in growth. Round Rock’s population increased in mid-2016 to 120,892 people, a 4.2 percent increase from the year before. Pflugerville is estimated to have 59,245 people, a 3.8 percent increase from mid-2015.

Hutto did not qualify for the list reserved only for incorporated cities with populations that exceed 50,000.

Texas dominated the top of the U.S. Census list with Conroe (No. 1), Frisco (No. 2) and McKinney (No. 3), Not far behind were Central Texas cities Georgetown (No. 5) and Cedar Park (No. 12). Pearland (No. 16) also ranked just higher than Round Rock and Pflugerville.

This is the first year in the past half-decade that a Central Texas city has not topped the list of fastest-growing U.S. cities. Prior to Georgetown’s top ranking in 2016, San Marcos was the country’s fastest-growing city for three years in a row.

Pflugerville, which ranked 11th in 2014-15, had its population growth rate decrease from the prior year’s estimates, while Round Rock increased its rate of growth. Here are the population trends in both cities since 2012:
