Plano GoLink riders now have access to a new service zone and more flexible transit options after Dallas Area Rapid Transit expanded access to the on-demand transit system.
The transit agency has also implemented temporary service changes during the State Fair of Texas to offer direct transport to the fair and the Red River Showdown football game.
The overview
DART’s GoLink service offers on-demand, curb-to-curb shuttles anywhere within a specified zone.
Starting on Oct. 5, DART added a new GoLink zone in southwest Plano and also expanded services in several of the city’s seven existing zones.
The expansions will improve access to destinations like Collin College Plano Campus, the Jack Hatchell Transit Center, the Silver Line and several DART stations in the city, per a news release from the agency. DART also expanded its Zone-to-Zone pilot program in Plano, which provides shuttle travel between GoLink zones, and removed buffer restrictions to offer more flexibility for riders.
Per the release, the GoLink changes in Plano are “part of DART’s commitment to providing broader access to on-demand transit in Plano.”
A closer look
For the duration of the State Fair, DART is running a "State Fair Flyer” bus shuttle on weekends and Oct. 12 to provide hourly transportation directly to Fair Park from the following transit centers:
DART will operate additional "State Fair Flyer” shuttle buses on Oct. 10 for the Red River Showdown football game between the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma. These shuttles will run from Richardson’s CityLine/Bush Station and the SMU/Mockingbird Station.
The shuttles will begin operating at 8 a.m. on game day and the last buses will depart Fair Park’s Lot 8 two hours after the game ends.
“The Texas vs. Oklahoma matchup is a cornerstone of North Texas culture, and DART is excited to get fans there,” DART Chief Operations Officer Trenise Winters said in a news release. “We are dedicated to giving fans a seamless, worry-free ride, letting them focus entirely on the game.”
All DART rail lines run every 20 minutes during State Fair weekends, from opening day on Sept. 25 to closing day on Oct. 18. Trains to Fair Park also have more rail cars with increased capacity.
