Richardson announced it will move Santa’s Village to Huffhines Park for the 2022 holiday season after the City Hall fire.
According to city officials, the traditional Santa’s Village site, which is located in the fountain plaza adjacent to City Hall, has been covered by fire-related fencing. A tentative move-in date for Santa’s Village has been set for Oct. 17.
Huffhines Park is at 300 N. Plano Road just north of Belt Line Road. Richardson officials have utilized the city-owned park for temporary renovation, recommending a permanent home in the park for the historic Miss Belle’s House.
The new location will require a few changes to the village, including a reduction in the number of dwellings, according to city officials. Parks Director Lori Smeby said during a City Council meeting that Huffhines Park was a natural choice for hosting Santa’s Village due to “available electricity, good parking infrastructure and restroom availability.”
