Richardson Public Library’s temporary location is now closed as staff move back to the newly renovated library building.
The temporary library on Campbell Creek Boulevard closed on Oct. 11. The renovated library on Arapaho Road is expected to open later this fall, according to a news release from the city.
What you need to know
All physical library services have been suspended during the move, including Interlibrary Loan requests, 3D print jobs, holds or check-outs for physical materials and most in-person programming. Monthly book clubs and the library’s Spookilicious Halloween event will be hosted at City Hall.
The book drop will also be closed during the move, and due dates for any materials checked out prior to the closure are extended until the library reopens.
Digital library resources remain available to all cardholders in good standing, including e-books, digital media and databases. Library staff are also available by phone or email during normal operating hours.
How we got here
The temporary library opened in 2023, when renovations began on the original facility. The renovation project is part of the city’s 2021 bond and includes changes to modernize the library facility.
According to city announcements, primary changes at the renovated library building include enhanced natural light, a new glass-enclosed staircase and a relocated main entrance on the southeast corner, which will also include a drop-off lane.
The library is also significantly expanding its youth services area, adding new spaces and activities on the first and second levels of the renovated building in designated areas for young children, older children and teens.
A grand opening for the new public library is expected this fall.
