Richardson ISD canceled all after-school events, activities and games for Jan. 30 due to a forecast of inclement winter weather, according to a press release.
A winter storm warning is in effect throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area until 6 a.m. Feb. 1 with dangerous road travel expected, according to the National Weather service. Slick spots on bridges and overpasses are expected, and widespread icing on bridges and overpasses is expected to take place as early as the morning of Jan. 31.
District officials said afternoon bus routes will run on a normal schedule Jan. 30. If travel conditions worsen, then bus routes may take longer to complete safely.
Based on the district's assessment of the road conditions and consultation with city partners and surrounding districts, Superintendent Tabitha Branum will determine if schools in RISD will close early Jan. 30 and remain closed Jan. 31 for the safety of students and staff, according to district officials.
