Mike Jasso returns to Richardson ISD to serve as chief of staff

Mike Jasso was hired by Richardson ISD to be the district’s new chief of staff, according to a Nov. 16 press release from the district.

According to RISD officials, Jasso fills the district’s No. 2 position that has been vacant since December 2021. He previously worked at RISD from 2017-21 as executive director of the Berkner learning community.

“Mike brings a wealth of ability and experience to our leadership team,” RISD Superintendent Tabitha Branum said in a statement. “He is a servant leader with a proven track record, and we are excited to welcome him back to RISD.”

Jasso returns to RISD after serving two assistant superintendent roles at Mesquite ISD, leading personnel services and administrative services. This year marks his 30th year in public education, during which time Jasso has served as a classroom teacher and coach, assistant principal, and middle and high school principal.

“I’m honored and thrilled to be returning to Richardson ISD,” Jasso said in a statement. “I know from experience that RISD is a wonderful school district. The future is bright, and I’m grateful to be part of supporting our students, teachers and families as we continue to move forward.”

According to district officials, Jasso’s role as chief of staff will be to work with Branum to provide leadership, and facilitate programming and district initiatives while working with a variety of community groups.

Jasso is scheduled to begin his transition to his new role before the end of 2022.
