Tongue In Cheek Ice Cream creating Richardson-themed flavor

The city of Richardson partnered with Tongue In Cheek Ice Cream to create a specialty ice cream flavor to honor the city’s 150th anniversary.

City officials said the local shop is letting patrons pick between two flavors to decide the winning ice cream that will be sold at the city’s anniversary celebration, which is scheduled for June 24 in historic Downtown Richardson.

Contending flavors include:

• Wildflower: lavender and lemon vanilla ice cream swirled with a honeycomb crunch
• Lockwood Chocolate Whiskey Caramel Crack: a chocolate whiskey base with a swirl of Lockwood bourbon and caramel

Voting on the winning ice cream starts May 19 and will run for about three weeks, according to Tongue in Cheek ownership. Those interested in voting can sample both flavors and vote for their favorite at the ice cream shop, which is located at 526 W. Arapaho Road. Both flavors will also be offered at the Wildflower Arts and Music Festival, which will be held May 19-21.

In addition to being sold at the anniversary celebration, the winning flavor will be sold in-store for a limited time following the anniversary event. A portion of the sales will be donated to the Network of Community Ministries, a local nonprofit organization focused on providing food, clothing and other services to over 60,000 individuals in the Richardson/North Dallas area annually.

Started by a retired Richardson firefighter, Tongue In Cheek sells 28 rotating flavors, including eight vegan/nondairy options, according to the company’s website. The ice cream store has participated in a variety of community events, including this year's Cottonwood Art Festival.
