Technology company Andrew to relocate, expand Richardson headquarters

Technology company Andrew will relocate and expand its Richardson headquarters, according to a news release from the city.

“They’ve had a decades-long history here in Richardson,” City Manager Don Magner said. “We’re just really honored that they’re going to continue to grow and expand here.”

The details

Andrew, an Amphenol company, is a global provider of wireless network infrastructure solutions, like antennas and network systems wireless communications in indoor and outdoor environments.

“As so many different realms continue to expand that require things like 5G and beyond, future technologies, Andrew is at the heart of that advancement,” Magner said.

The company has operated headquarters in Richardson for decades, with senior leadership, global headquarters, research and development teams and advanced testing functions based at the facility, according to the release.

Andrew will move from 2601 Telecom Parkway to a nearby larger facility at 2920 Telecom Parkway, leasing around 42,000 square feet of office, engineering and lab space.

“Richardson has been the historical home of Andrew for decades, and we are proud to continue building our future here,” group general manager Farid Firouzbakht said in the release. “This relocation is a natural evolution that allows us to strengthen our headquarters, expand our [research and development] and testing capabilities, and support the long-term growth of our global organization.”

A closer look

Richardson approved a $150,000 business retention grant to support Andrew’s relocation, which Magner said is in line with the city’s strategic plan for economic development.

“We’re particularly excited because this is highly aligned with our economic development plan,” Magner said. “Anytime that we can help retain a company of the quality of Andrew and see them grow and expand in one of our target industries, it’s a real confirmation of the work that we’re doing.”

Magner said Andrew’s capital will more than double in Richardson with the new facility, bringing a significant increase in tax revenue to the city.

Looking ahead

Andrew has agreed to a minimum 10-year lease at the new facility, where it will invest over $2 million in tenant improvements and the addition of new furniture, fixtures and equipment.

“[The] new facility will allow them to activate immediately, but also provide them some room to grow,” Magner said.

The company will retain its current workforce and could potentially add more than 30 “highly skilled positions” in the coming years, the release states.

“These are exciting jobs. They are high-paying, technology-based jobs, and we feel like it continues to add to what is one of the strongest technology workforces in all of North Texas right here in Richardson,” Magner said.
