Tech company Celestica expanding Richardson footprint to 1 million square feet

Celestica will also make an estimated $300 million in capital investment over the next two years “to support tenant improvements and the addition of new equipment,” according to the release. The city will contribute a $3 million tenant improvement grant.

The company designs and manufactures hardware that supports data center infrastructure, communications technology, cloud services and more.

“This expansion is a milestone in Celestica’s growth strategy, allowing us to scale our advanced technology and manufacturing capabilities,” Celestica Chief Operations Officer Yann Etienvre said. “By building out a one-million-square-foot campus, we are leveraging Richardson’s tech-forward infrastructure and top-tier talent to fuel innovation and support our customers.”

The building formerly housed Fujitsu Limited, which established a presence in Richardson in the 1990s as part of the city’s Telecom Corridor—a stretch of US 75 that was once lined with telecommunications companies.

Fujitsu, now called, 1Finity relocated to a new space in Galatyn Commons last year. Magner said that it’s a “very special thing” to see the former Fujitsu campus reinvented in “such an impactful way.”

“This is a very, very purpose-built facility, and so the types of users that could effectively and efficiently operate out of here is fairly limited,” he said. “Fujitsu and this campus was a big part of our community through the Telecom Corridor days, so having it reactivated as such an important part of our economy is an exciting thing.”
