A new fire station is opening soon in Prosper, according to an April 8 town news release.
The new 12,212-square-foot facility, located on the town’s east side, will be the fourth station for the Prosper Fire Department and is expected to help improve emergency response times in that area.
What it means
The station will include five fire engine bays and sleeping quarters for up to eight firefighters. The department plans to phase-in staffing over time, Fire Chief Stuart Blasingame said previously.
Funded by the town’s 2020 bond program, the $13.8 million station will open with nine staff members while the department plans to add several additional positions in the coming year.
Town officials said the fourth fire station will help the department improve its response times to service calls on the town’s east side.
“Fire Station 4 strengthens our ability to be where our residents need us, when they need us,” Blasingame said in the release. “It’s another step in delivering the level of service our community expects and deserves.”
Zooming out
The department is planning to add ambulance services to Fire Station No. 4 by 2028, which would bring in six more personnel members, Blasingame said previously.
Additionally, the station is the second-to-last planned for the town. Blasingame said a fifth and final station is anticipated on Prosper’s northwest side and could be built in about five years, depending on the town’s growth.
One more thing
Town officials are set to host a public dedication and opening ceremony at 3 p.m. on April 28 at 3980 E. Prosper Trail, per the release.
