Celina officials are upgrading the city’s public safety infrastructure to prepare for new growth, Fire Chief Shawn White said at an Aug. 11 Celina City Council meeting.
Fire Station No. 2, which is located off of Light Farms Way near Dallas North Tollway, will be replaced with a larger building on the same lot, White said.
Celina City Council approved a $1.15 million design contract for the new station at the August meeting.

The existing Fire Station No. 2 was built as a temporary building in 2019, according to a presentation by White and Assistant City Manager Kim Brawner. It includes:

Design work on the new fire station will also include minor renovations for the old building so it can be used for equipment storage and logistics, per the presentation.
Council awarded the design contract to Conduit Architecture + Design, according to city documents.
Conduit Architecture + Design also did the design work for Fire Station No. 4, which is set to open in early 2027, according to previous reporting.
Including design costs, city officials have allocated $23 million for the new building and $11.35 million for the remodel of the old building for a total estimated cost of $34.35 million, according to the city’s five-year capital improvement program.
White estimated design and construction of the new Fire Station No. 2 will take at least two years.
Zooming out
DNT’s expansion will be a double-edged sword for the Celina Fire Department, White said.
Construction on DNT Phase 4A, which runs from US 380 to FM 428, is expected to wrap up in late 2027, according to the North Texas Tollway Authority.
While the roadway’s opening will create additional demand on Fire Station No. 2, it will also make it easier for firefighters to get where they need to go, White said.
“Those main corridors are a huge advantage to us in providing services because we can travel farther, faster,” he said.
Fire Station No. 2 is also close to the Outer Loop, meaning the station will be well-positioned near a major north-to-south and east-to-west thoroughfare, White said.
“It is one of the best locations that we have in our emergency service delivery system,” he said.
One more thing
Officials also plan to build a fifth fire station on the northwest corner of Legacy Drive and J. Fred Smith Parkway, per the five-year capital improvement program.

Based on current call volume in the area, officials expect to begin designing Fire Station No. 5 in 2029 or 2030 for a completion date in 2030 or 2031, White said.
