Celina officials to create local business support program

Celina officials approved the creation of a new program and committee meant to support local businesses. It will be dubbed the Local Business Support Program.

The committee will be tasked with determining program specifics over the next few months. Officials want the program to provide resources, educational opportunities, mentorship and consulting to help support local business owners, according to city documents.

The committee was unanimously approved by the Celina City Council at its meeting May 13.

The city and the Celina Economic Development Corporation partnered in the creation of the program and committee.

The committee will be made up of members from multiple governmental and local entities. It will include:

• Two City Council members
• Two representatives from the downtown commission
• Two Celina EDC members
• Two representatives from the Greater Celina Chamber of Commerce

Each entity appointed its members. Both City Council members Andy Hopkins and Brandon Grumbles were appointed to the committee that will help establish the local business support program.

The committee is tentatively scheduled to meet:

• 4 p.m. June 11
• 4 p.m. July 9
• 4 p.m. Aug. 13
• 4 p.m. Sept. 10
