The Prosper ISD board appointed a new acting superintendent.
The board named Deputy Superintendent Bill McLaughlin as the acting superintendent of schools during a May 26 special meeting. The appointment comes after Superintendent Holly Ferguson announced her retirement earlier this year.
Ferguson served as superintendent for six of the 23 years she worked at the district. The board selected Impact Education Specialists to lead the search for the next superintendent. A timeline for the search is not yet available.

McLaughlin will serve in the capacity until a permanent superintendent is selected, according to a May 26 district news release.
"We are so pleased that Mr. McLaughlin has agreed to serve as Acting Superintendent while we continue our search," board President Kelly Cavender said in the release. "Dr. Ferguson's legacy includes a talented leadership team across Prosper ISD, and we are grateful that Mr. McLaughlin brings the experience and dedication needed to ensure a seamless transition for our students, staff, and community. We have full confidence in his ability to maintain the excellence our families and staff have come to expect."
McLaughlin has 33 years of experience in public education and four years of service at PISD. During his time in Prosper, he served as executive director of Human Resources, chief of School Leadership and Innovation and most recently as the deputy superintendent.
"I am honored by the trust the Board of Trustees has placed in me," McLaughlin said in the release. "Prosper ISD is a remarkable district with dedicated educators, engaged families, and exceptional students. I look forward to ensuring continuity and stability as we move through this transition together."
