Prosper Education Foundation opens scholarship application for dual credit

Prosper ISD students have the chance to receive financial assistance for dual-credit courses.

Prosper Education Foundation is offering scholarships to students taking dual-credit courses in the 2024-25 school year. The application window closes Feb. 28. The scholarships will assist with the cost of one class at Collin College.

For dual-credit courses, PISD works with Collin College. Students are able to take college courses with the college’s professors and graduate with a high school and college transcript. The district offers credit hours in courses such as U.S. history, college algebra, federal government and various health science clinical programs.

A three-credit-hour course is $188 for in-county residents at Collin College, according to PISD. Based on fall 2023 tuition rates, a three-credit-hour course is $1,414.54 at the University of North Texas.

In the 2019-20 school year, PISD had 439 students in dual-credit classes. By the beginning of the 2023-24 school year, this had grown to over 1,000 students, according to a presentation by Seth Rutledge, PISD’s director of advanced academics, during an October board meeting.
