Volleys Village, a proposed tennis-themed mixed-use development, is moving forward in Prosper.
The Prosper Planning and Zoning Commission voted 6-0 in favor of rezoning 54 acres from agricultural uses to a planned development at a June 2 meeting.
Zooming in
The 54-acre development will be anchored by a tennis club, according to town documents.
In addition to indoor and outdoor tennis courts, plans for the tennis club include:
- Indoor pickleball courts
- Indoor and outdoor swimming pools
- Fitness center
- Yoga and cycling studios
- Pro shop
The tennis club will be built in Phase 1 of the project, per town documents. If approved, construction of the tennis club is expected to take 12-18 months.
Commissioners hope building the tennis club first will help facilitate the development’s overall growth.
“A lot of times we get a great development before us, and that jewel of what we’re looking for is Phase 3 or 4,” Commissioner John Hamilton said. “It’s very exciting to see this included in the first phase. We know that it’ll cause the rest of the development to develop a lot quicker.”
Building the rest of the development, which includes plans for office space, retail, restaurants and a hotel, is expected to take three to five years.
Next steps
The commission voted in favor of the project with minor modifications to the landscaping and facade.
Following the commission’s recommendation, the planned development will go to Prosper Town Council for final approval.
