Updated: City of Plano offers water, showers to those affected by winter storms

Showers and water bottles for residents without water following the last week's winter storms are being provided by the city of Plano.

Beginning Feb. 21, any resident can take a shower free of charge at Carpenter Park and Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Centers, as well as the Plano Aquatic Center.

Face masks and proof of residency will be required to enter the recreation centers, a release from the city said. Staff will take down personal information, as well as a check-in time, and residents are asked to check out when finished using the facilities. Those who use the facilities are encouraged to bring their own personal toiletries, including towels, wash cloths and items like shampoo, per the release.

Water distribution by the city will continue through early next week at a new contactless site at the Plano Event Center.

This effort is meant to help those who had pipes burst or otherwise lost access to water due to the winter weather this week, a release from the city said.

The site will be open from noon-6 p.m. Feb. 20-22 at the drive-up atrium on the north side of the event center facing Spring Creek Parkway. The Plano Events Center is located at 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano.

The city previously distributed water at Grace Church Plano during its time as a temporary warming center the week of Feb. 15. The warming center has since closed.
