Crews with the Plano Public Works Department began spreading sand on city roads on the morning of Feb. 23 to help with drivability due to freezing temperatures and rain. City officials said elevated surfaces in the city had begun accumulating ice by 9 a.m. Feb. 23.
A winter weather advisory is in effect across the Dallas-Fort Worth area through 6 p.m. Feb. 24, according to the National Weather Service. The warning states the weather will include a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet with possible ice accumulation from one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch.
Crews with the Plano Parks and Recreation Department were also out early Feb. 23 treating city facility walkways and entrances, according to city staff.
As of 9 a.m., Plano planned to complete its scheduled solid waste pickup for Feb. 23.
