Cold rain expected throughout Dallas-Fort Worth area; sleet and snow unlikely

The Dallas-Fort Worth area will remain under winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. Wednesday but will likely not see any dangerous weather, according to the National Weather Service.

“Right now we’ve got little bits of rain that is moving across the area, but with much of the Metroplex right around freezing or just above freezing we’re not really seeing any sort of sleet or snow at the time,” a Nation Weather Service spokesperson said.

These conditions will likely continue throughout the day, she said. The possibility of sleet will arise if temperatures dip below freezing.

The National Weather Service recommends driving slow in inclement weather but sees no immediate dangers on the roads in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, she said.

“The Metroplex is actually in pretty good shape,” the spokesperson said. “[Taking it slowly] is your best bet for today.”

A winter storm causing the cold weather and possible sleet remains to the northwest of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and will move northeast across the United States in the next few days, according to national forecast charts.

As of 7 a.m. temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are above freezing and are expected to come up a couple of degrees throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.

School districts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area have announced that they are operating under normal hours, including Coppell ISD, Carroll ISD, Keller ISD, Northwest ISD, Grapevine-Colleyville ISD and Denton ISD.
