Two new lanes will be added to section of Shiloh Road in Plano to reduce traffic congestion

Shiloh Road in Plano is being expanded to help alleviate traffic concerns across the roadway, city planning documents stated.

City Council approved the nearly $14 million project at its March 15 meeting. Construction will add two new lanes on Shiloh Road from Park Boulevard to 14th Street. Currently, that part of the street has only two lanes, which has led to congested traffic, officials said.

The project will be paid for through the city’s Community Investment Program fund that is meant to cover city infrastructure improvements. Officials said some funding will also come from the Collin County bond that was approved in 2018 to improve the county’s roadways.

Project planning documents state construction should start this April and could last until November 2023.

The expansion will double the size of the roadway with a center divider and add a bike lane in each direction, according to the project plan.

A small bridge will also be constructed, and new storm sewers, water mains and traffic signals will be installed, documents show. Improvements will also be made to alleviate flooding issues, according to the plan.

“It is a widening our community has been waiting on,” City Manager Mark Israelson said during the meeting.

City planners indicated further expansion of the roadway could be considered at a future date. A map showing the exact project location can be seen below.
