Plano Family YMCA to reopen at partial capacity, along with 6 other North Texas locations

Plano Family YMCA will reopen to its members June 1, along with a number of other Dallas-area locations.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas on May 28 announced the phased reopening plans as it laid out a number of precautions that the organization will take to protect against the spread of the coronavirus.

In addition to the Plano location, six other locations were expected to reopen at that start of next week, including the Frisco Family YMCA.

“We have decided to take a staggered approach to make sure we are appropriately ready to reopen,” President and CEO Curt Hazelbaker said in a statement. “Our plan is to open seven branches in the first phase to see what works and what doesn’t.”

The locations have been closed since March as the state imposed restrictions on gyms and other recreational facilities in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Showers and locker rooms will remain closed in accordance with state guidelines. The facilities will be restricted to one-fourth of their pre-coronavirus capacity. All guests will be required to stay six feet apart from others at all times, and masks will be strongly encouraged.

Plans had yet to be announced for the organization’s various camps and youth sports activities. Updates will be posted at the Y’s website.
