Plano water, waste bill increases approved at City Council

Plano City Council officially approved bill increases for water, sewer and trash services in the city at a meeting Sept. 28.

In a nutshell

The average resident is expected to see a $16 increase in their monthly utility bill starting Oct. 1, per previous reporting. 

Trash collection services will increase their 95-gallon container, 68-gallon container, commercial cart and extra cart service fees, per city documents. The new fees will bring $900,986 more in revenue for the city’s budget.

Plano residents will also now pay a $33.40 minimum rate for the first 1,000 gallons of water service, a $2.50 increase from the previous year per city documents. The city has been increasing its water rate gradually over three years to align with wholesale water prices from the North Texas Municipal Water District, per previous reporting.

Residents who use between 1,001 and 5,000 gallons of water in a month will be charged an additional $1.05 over the previous year. All other tiered costs and the sewer rate will increase by 8%, according to city documents. The new prices are expected to bring more than $18 million in additional funds for the city budget.

Water, sewer and trash rate increases were first discussed by Plano officials at a budget work session meeting in August, per previous reporting. The city’s FY 2026-27 budget was approved at a meeting Sept. 14. Budget discussions first started July 30.
