Plano sales tax collections dropped 13% year over year in first full month of pandemic closures

Plano sales tax collections were down 13% in April as compared to the same month last year.

Data released last week by the Texas State Comptroller’s Office reflects a drop in economic activity in Plano during the first full month of coronavirus-related restrictions.

Collections in Plano were $5.6 million in April, down from $6.5 million during the same period in 2019.

Through the first four months of 2020, Plano’s collections were down nearly 2% year over year.

Nearby cities were also affected in April. Frisco nearly matched Plano’s April collection decline of 13% year over year, Richardson’s collections fell by 1.5%, and in Dallas, they declined by nearly a quarter. In McKinney, on the other hand, collections were up by more than 12%.
