Construction of the Collin Creek Mall redevelopment in Plano is on track despite some cold weather that has made its way into North Texas this February, according to city officials.
The $1 billion mixed-use development will transform the site of the old Collin Creek Mall and the surrounding area. The project will include 400,000 square feet of retail space, 500 single-family homes, 2,300 multifamily apartment units, 1.3 million square feet of office space and a 200-room hotel. An outdoor space will include 8 acres of parkland and more than a mile of trails.
The city of Plano expects to contribute $97 million to the project via revenue from a tax financing zone as well as through various bonds. The rest of the project will be funded privately. A groundbreaking event was held at the project site last September.
Peter Braster, Plano’s director of special projects, said demolition work is mostly complete, and construction on the underground garage is now underway. He said crews have recently been working to dig out the old foundation columns that held up many of the retail stores underneath the old mall to make room for the new parking garage.
